Meet Dave
In 1976, I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Upper Iowa University with a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting, and I joined KPMG to pursue my CPA career. I loved the audit practice at KPMG of which I was a part for 25 years. As a partner at KPMG, I managed and worked with teams of CPAs auditing many diverse types of industries including governments.
During my career of almost 30 years in the audit business, I have lived by the words, "In God we trust; everyone else we audit." I left a 25 year career at KPMG doing what I love because I wanted to use my audit skills for the state of Iowa. My decades of audit experience as a CPA and my passion for efficiency have served me well in my first term as State Auditor. Below is a summary of my background:

Professional Experience: State Auditor January 2003 – Current. KPMG LLP July 1976 – September 2001. Audit partner in Des Moines office specializing in Government Services; Manufacturing, Retail and Distribution; and Information, Communications and Entertainment practices. Des Moines Office Human Resources partner, responsible for annual salary review and performance evaluations for managers and staff, and performed a wide variety of administrative functions. Des Moines Office Recruiting Partner, responsible for on-campus recruiting of audit professional staff.
